Ethiopia to Become Powerhouse in Tourism, Says US Ambassador

Addis Ababa: The US Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin Jose Massinga said that ‘Ethiopia is going to be a powerhouse in tourism.’

Ambassador Ervin Jose Massinga who attended the inaugural of Chebera Churchura Elephant Paw Lodge today in Dawuro Zone of South West Ethiopia described the tourist site as moving and emotionally involving.

He told the media that he hoped Ethiopia will become one of the leading tourist destinations in the coming years as it is a country with immense tourism potential. “I know that Ethiopia is going to be a powerhouse in tourism,” he noted.

‘It is incredible, stunning, moving and emotionally involving. I’m thrilled that this is my first time to see one of Ethiopia’s wonderful parks, and I look forward to (see) many others. Tourism in particular gives many Ethiopian young people an opportunity to share their cultural heritage and their landscape in a healthy, productive way,’ he stated.

Indicating that today’s visit is the first time that he has witnessed such captivating places since
he came to Ethiopia, the ambassador was thrilled by that Chebera Churchura Elephant Paw Lodge as graceful scenery that nature provides wonders.

He also pointed out that tourism creates an opportunity to promote culture and other blessings.

Thus, the ambassador added Ethiopia’s untapped tourism potential will play an important role in the country’s endeavor to realize its diversified economy.

Dine for Sheger, Dine for Nation, and Dine for Generation initiatives initiated by the premier are clear manifestations of the country’s commitment to fully exploit Ethiopia’s tourism potentials, leveraging the sector as one of the accelerators of its inclusive economic growth ambitions.

The ambassador further stated that mining and industry, other forms of industry as well as the service industry are all very important as part of the diversification plan in Ethiopia.

‘Tourism has a particular role to play, especially relative to beautiful areas such as this, and I’m looking forward to the growth of the tourist indus
try. I know that Ethiopia is going to be a powerhouse in tourism.’

Speaking on the bilateral relationships between Ethiopia and US, Ambassador Massinga reaffirmed his country’s commitment to consolidating a historic ties and cooperation in various spheres between the two countries.

He expressed his determination during his tenure to exert a maximum in 2024 to further elevate the diplomatic ties of Ethiopia and the United States.

‘The US and Ethiopia have a long standing history in many different dimensions. Be it health care, be it agriculture, and be it education. The people of Ethiopia know that history better than I do. But just wait in the coming years under my tenure as ambassador, and even after that, that relationship will get stronger and deeper,’ he reaffirmed.
