The National Government is doing its best to clear pending bills owed by contractors, so that they resume working in the shortest time possible.
The National Assembly’s Roads and Infrastructure Committee Chairperson, George Kariuki, who is also Ndia Member of Parliament (MP), said there is a huge delay in the completion of road projects, but there is hope that they will resume as soon as possible.
Speaking in Kangai Ward, Mwea, in Kirinyaga County, the Chair said as National Assembly is prioritizing the ongoing projects before initiating others, calling for patience from the public.
He was attending a football tournament organized by Kangai Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), James Wambua.
‘I want to tell the people that there is hope that in coming months, contractors will resume to complete the entire stalled projects,’ he assured.
Kariuki said the roads using levy funds have not been affected and all constituencies will receive funds for upgrading and murraming.

mmonly knowns as road maintenance levy fund, are ongoing and the Committee will continue to supports constituencies to get levy fund for road improvements in local areas,’ Kariuki added
He called on the residents to support the housing program, championed by the President, because they are primary beneficiaries.
Kirinyaga already has Affordable Housing projects in Kirinyaga Central and Gichugu constituencies, while Ndia and Mwea are yet to avail the land for the projects.
Kariuki revealed that he has lobbied for the expansion of Kagio Market to a Metro Market, accommodating over 3,000 traders.
‘The Market in Kagio will be expanded to Metro Market to reduce congestion being witnessed,’ he said.
On football tournaments, the MP said such events have helped in reduction of alcoholism and drug abuse by youth in the Central Region.
The host MCA said the tournament has been a good platform to sensitize youths on important groups in accessing the funds offered by various government departments in both levels.
Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker, Muteti Murimi, who attended the tournament, said they have a pending bill dubbed Kirinyaga Youth Empowerment Bill, which once enacted will set aside Sh100 million for empowerment of youth groups.
