Scrap Metal Council has issued a warning and dire consequences to all players in the scrap metal industry, engaging in vandalism of critical private and public infrastructure.
The Chairman of Scrap Metal Council, Mr. Francis Mugo, said the Council is greatly concerned with the recent reports across the country, on the upsurge in cases of theft and vandalism targeting public and private sectors infrastructure.
In a press statement sent to newsrooms, Mugo said scrap metal dealers who will be caught, will be dealt with in accordance with provisions of the Scrap Metal Act of 2015.
‘We have revoked the license of Triple Seven Collectors Ltd with immediate effect,’ announced the Chairman.
‘I am also notifying those trading in scrap metal without licenses from the Council, that they risk being arrested and their businesses closed as their cases are being prosecuted,’ he said.
The Chairman disclosed that the Council is in consultation with the Inspector General of Police and Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority, to be provided with information on all misconducts in scrap metal industry, for appropriate action.
Mr. Mugo stated that the Council is in the process of gazetting its Inspectors, who will be dispatched across the country, to monitor activities in the industry.
‘We call on government agencies planning to dispose scrap metal, to do so in consultation with Scrap Metal Council,’ urged the Chairman.
