The incoming Turkana County Commissioner Julius Kavita on Tuesday took over from his predecessor Jacob Ouma and urged government officers in the area to publicise the affordable housing programme so as to eliminate any misinformation that is surrounding the programme.
Kavita also noted the affordable housing programme as among the government’s top priorities and urged the civil servants to sensitize the public on the same to eliminate misinformation about the programme.
Kavita was among the Deputy County Commissioners who were recently promoted and moved from Kirinyaga Central to Turkana County.
On his part, Ouma was transferred in the same capacity to be the County Commissioner for Meru County.
The two senior administrators urged the civil servants to work as a team to deliver the government development agenda.
‘We need to work as a team as civil servants to ensure we deliver the government agenda,’ said Kavita.
He also took the opportunity to underscore the need for prudent utilization of government r
esources.
Ouma commended the civil servants for embracing teamwork saying it had helped uplift the face of the County and shed off the negative publicity associated with the County in the past.
‘We have hosted senior dignitaries including the Head of State due to your support as civil servants. I urge you to extend the same support to the new County Commissioner,’ said Ouma.
The County played host to Senators in September last year. The Senate of Kenya, led by Speaker Amason Kingi, arrived in Lodwar on Monday September 25 for Senate Mashinani sittings, which were held in the Town for an entire week.
He cited strides made in the education sector saying by ensuring children go to school as a way of arresting insecurity particularly banditry and highway robberies.
‘We cannot achieve 100 percent transition without team work,’ added Kavita.
According to the Kenya Medical Training College Principal, Susan Ereng, the County enjoyed peace during Ouma’s tenure.
