Official Launch of ‘One Farm, One Borehole’ Project in Ouagadougou

Ouagadougou: The representative of the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries, Baba Galley Diarra, launched the ‘one farm, one borehole’ project on Saturday morning in Ouagadougou. This initiative is spearheaded by the Societe Cooperative Simplifiee Tilgre, aiming to enhance water resource mobilization for year-round agricultural practices.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project aligns with the vision of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, to secure the country’s food sovereignty. Baba Galley Diarra highlighted that agriculture is the primary occupation for over 75% of Burkina Faso’s population, as per the 2019 general population census. Despite ongoing efforts, the nation continues to face challenges in meeting domestic consumption needs due to limiting factors such as the availability of agricultural water.

Baba Galley Diarra emphasized that the “one farm, one borehole” initiative by SCOOPS Tilgre is essential for mobilizing groundwater to support agricultural production, aligning with the ministry’s objectives frequently reiterated by Minister of State, Commander Isma«l Sombie. The initiative also includes plans for product processing and distribution with the aid of specific partners.

The Ministry of Agriculture has pledged technical support, advice, and guidance to the company for the successful execution of these projects. Harouna Sawadogo, President of SCOOPS Tilgre, explained that the project’s financial resources would be mobilized through technical and financial partners, including state funds, and individual contributions from cooperative members.

The company aims to establish at least 500 agricultural farms by 2027, contingent on resource mobilization. Participation in the project requires membership in the Tilgre cooperative society, ownership of shares, and secure land possession. The launch event featured a communication session on the theme ‘The’.
