Over 400 residents from Narok Town in Narok North Constituency have benefited from relief food, thanks to the area Member of Parliament Agnes Pareyio.
Pareyio said this was a programme by the national government to mitigate the effects of hunger and floods saying the donation mainly benefited those living in the slums and the most vulnerable people in the society.
Most of the beneficiaries were people from Majengo estate, Mungáre slums, Olpopongi slums and London areas that are part of Narok town.
Pareyio said the food included rice and beans, where each family received 10 kilogram of rice and 10 kilogram of beans.
‘We are concerned about the vulnerable families that do not have anything to place on the table. The government will continue supporting these families through various programmes,’ she said.
The government was also providing cash transfer to the Orphans and Vulnerable Children, the older people who have attained the age of 70 years and those living with severe disability.
On the ongoing heavy
downpour, the MP called on residents living in areas prone to flooding to relocate to higher grounds, where it is safe for their families.
She called on parents to escort their young children when going to school to avoid cases of the young ones being swept by flash floods during this rainy season.
‘We are glad that the flash floods experienced in Narok town in the past years have now been reduced by the expansion of drainages. However, people should be careful when moving around during this rainy season,’ she said.
Being the first woman to be elected as Constituency MP in the area, Pareiyo committed to continue supporting vulnerable families so that they can live a decent life.
