Plans Underway To Equip Tegat Athletics Camp

Bomet County Government and the Ministry of Youths and Sports have agreed to partner in equipping the Tegat Athletics camp in Kembu Ward, Bomet East Sub County.

The agreement was reached on Wednesday when the Talanta Hela team from the Ministry of Sports paid a courtesy call on Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok in his office.

The partners agreed that the camp was in need of more training equipment so as to expand to accommodate various sporting activities.

Prof. Barchok said the county was endowed with a myriad sporting talents that have not been explored due to minimal training and lack of training facilities.

He said sports was a lucrative area which young and talented youths could explore instead of engaging in alcohol and drug abuse because of lack of employment.

Further afield, Education and Vocational Training Chief Officer Dr. John Kiprotich Keter has lauded the immense importance of games and sports in vocational training colleges.

Dr. Keter said that through games and sports, students were able to break away from academics and were enabled to foster good relationships with their counterparts from other institutions.

He said games and sports promoted unity and created a sense of camaraderie and patriotism among participants.

Additionally, the Chief Officer said such events not only provided an opportunity for participants to showcase their various talents and abilities but also gave a platform for the exchange of life ideas and allowed learning for each other among the trainees.

He urged trainees in the 33 VTCs to apply for county bursaries, which, he said, included full as well as partial scholarships.
