PM Abiy Says New Prosthetic, Orthotic Center Plays Crucial Role to Provide Quality Services

Addis Ababa, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said newly inaugurated center for the Ethiopian Prosthetic and Orthotic Service will play a great deal of contribution to provide quality services.

The premier has today inaugurated the newly center for the Ethiopian Prosthetic and Orthotic Service.

The center for the Ethiopian Prosthetic and Orthotic Service has been newly formed as per the direction gave by Prime Minister Abiy three years ago.

Previously, the center used to provide services in a fragmented manner, but it has now been newly reorganized by incorporating other new services.

The center will cater to increased needs for such products by manufacturing them locally for persons encountering disabilities due to natural conditions and due to accidents.

The Ethiopian Prosthetic and Orthotic Service will develop, maintain and provide assistive technologies, produce accessible, quality and customer-oriented prosthetic and physical supports and provide other rehabilitation services.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Abiy recalled the visit he had conducted to the center two years ago and observed that it was providing services with an inconvenient environment.

Hence, the Premier said the Center has now been reorganized newly in a way that its services could be further modernized.

The center will play a great deal of contribution to provide quality services, the premier pointed out.

Noting that currently, the center will manufacture prosthetic and orthotic devices locally, the premier stressed that the center should exert efforts to provide services considering all types of disabilities in the future.

The PM has also urged the center to work hard with a view to providing services to countries in the region beyond Ethiopia.

He has also extended gratitude to friend countries and institutions for their support in the reorganization of the center.
