A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms and the University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM), today in Port-Louis, with the aim to provide undergraduate and postgraduate students with the hands-on experience in the Public Service as well as enhance their employability and professional skills through the Centralised Work Placement Scheme (CWPS). The Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany; the Secretary for Public Service, Mr Koosiram Conhye; and the Director General of the UTM, Dr Dinesh Kumar Hurreeram, were present on the occasion. The CWPS, launched in July 2024, is in line with Government’s overarching objective to encourage the youth to become agents of change for a prosperous, inclusive, and high-income economy as well as a technology-driven Public Service. In a statement, Minister Ramdhany indicated that this partnership marks the unwavering commitment of the Governme nt to propel the Public Service into the future, harnessing cutting-edge knowledge and best practices to improve public service delivery.As such, he stated that it will be easier to tap into the vast pool of talent and expertise that the UTM offers to drive technological innovation leading to an innovation-led public sector. Speaking of the CWPS, he stressed that University students will be able to gain experience in real-world work environments within Ministries, Departments, and Parastatal organisations. This initiative, he pointed out, aims to enhance their academic learning and develop their professional skills, ultimately boosting their employability. He thus indicated that the MoU will also be aligned with the specific needs of the Public Officers and the Public Service at large thus facilitating knowledge transfer and professional development in a bid to achieve higher efficiency in public service delivery. “The UTM has been an essential partner in the capacity-building efforts of our Public Officer s since many years and will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping a modern, resilient and citizen-focused Public Service”, added the Minister. As for Mr Hurreeram, he mentioned that the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms has a huge responsibility as Government bodies, Ministries and Departments rely on their good advice and support for effective management of services and public service delivery. According to him, the partnership between the two parties will be highly beneficial for the transformation of the Public Service and the development of young graduates seeking for work placement opportunities.
