Tourism Market To Expand In 2024

Economic experts are optimistic that the tourism sector is projected to grow in 2024, as some of the major contributing factors favour the expansion of the industry.

The experts foresee that the sector is expected to experience increased visibility and increased investments.

Speaking at the New Year celebrations at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa, the General Manager, Francis Msengeti, said that 2023 was a good year for the industry, noting the progressive revival of the sector post-COVID-19 over the last two years.

For instance, Sarova’s market is thriving for both domestic and international guests, largely due to the surge in flights and cruise ships into Mombasa. Msengeti stated that the surge in flights and cruise ships to Mombasa has significantly boosted the number of guests visiting the coast, indicating Kenya’s international market confidence.

He acknowledged that there have been several sustainability and environmental initiatives that the hotel has been adopting to ensure it remains inno
vative and competitive in the sector. Msengeti highlighted the hotel’s commitment to sustainability, including solar panels on all roofs, community enhancement through children’s homes, guest participation, mangrove planting, and other sustainability initiatives.

He concluded that the hotel focuses on selling exclusive experiences to their guests while noting the different activities that they have set up during the festive season, especially the gaming lounge that has impressed most of the guests.

Patrick Muriuki, a guest staying at the Sarova Whitesands, expressed his hope for a better year and more economic growth for the country.

He said, ‘Kenya is a very beautiful and rich country, and there is enough for everybody.’

He chose to spend his holidays in Mombasa due to its humid climate, friendly people, and numerous historical sites to visit.

The clocking-in of the New Year has swept a wave of jubilation, dazzling fireworks, and joyous gatherings and shared a great sense of optimism for the New Year’s
possibilities across the country.
