Ouagadougou: The Dano Central Police Station (CCP), in collaboration with the municipal police, organized a community service operation on Wednesday targeting road users violating traffic regulations. The operation aims to curb incivility and reduce traffic accidents in Dano by apprehending individuals who disregard the highway code.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the police operation focused on arresting individuals for offenses such as ignoring traffic lights and stop signs, speeding in populated areas, and using mobile phones while driving. Offenders were required to perform community service, cleaning gutters along National Road 12 to facilitate better water flow and prevent flooding in the town.
Dominique Ayoro, one of the offenders, expressed support for the initiative, urging citizens to respect traffic laws. He acknowledged his own mistake of running a red light and expressed pride in contributing to the community cleanup effort. Sylvie Somda, another participant, highlighted the operation’s potential to enhance the town’s health and appearance, advising others to exercise caution at intersections even when stop signs are absent.
The seized vehicles and equipment will be returned to their owners once the community service is completed and proper documentation is presented to the police. A total of 72 pieces of equipment were confiscated, and 81 individuals were detained during the operation’s first day. The initiative will continue in the coming days in Dano.
